Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
